Seventeen-year-old Yvonne Reglar had just celebrated her birthday and was weeks away from starting her senior year when she vanished on Monday, August 8, 1977, from a Sunoco gas station in Fairview Park, Ohio. Yvonne was working her very first shift at a temporary location when she answered a customer call around 1:00 p.m. and told a friend she would call her back, but she never did. Within hours, her purse, money, books, and untouched lunch were found inside the station, but Yvonne was gone without a trace. In this episode of Cold and Missing, we walk through the detailed timeline of that ordinary summer day that ended in extraordinary mystery. Join Ali and Eli as they go through this missing person case

parties mentioned are considered innocent until

00:00:16.129 --> 00:00:18.929
proven guilty in a court of law. Cold and Missing

00:00:18.929 --> 00:00:22.390

00:00:22.390 --> 00:00:26.230
discretion is advised. I'm your host, Ali McLaughlin

00:00:26.230 --> 00:00:28.989
-Sulkowski. And I'm your co -host, Eli Sulkowski.

00:00:29.250 --> 00:00:31.289
And this is Cold and Missing, where we cover

00:00:31.289 --> 00:00:34.850
cold cases and missing person cases. Hello, everyone,

00:00:34.850 --> 00:00:36.770
and welcome back to Cold and Missing. I'm your

00:00:36.770 --> 00:00:39.679
host, Ali . And I'm your co -host, Eli. Welcome

00:00:39.679 --> 00:00:42.460
back, everyone. We did have to take a week off

00:00:42.460 --> 00:00:45.520
last week. Both of us came down with quite the

00:00:45.520 --> 00:00:49.340
cold. So I was not fun to listen to, as I was

00:00:49.340 --> 00:00:51.600
told by many of my co -workers last week. So

00:00:51.600 --> 00:00:55.179
we took the week off to rest and recover. But

00:00:55.179 --> 00:00:57.880
we are back this week. Eli is back this week.

00:00:57.960 --> 00:01:00.500
He had a little break in his rehearsal schedule.

00:01:00.600 --> 00:01:03.520
So we wanted to get on here and bring you a new

00:01:03.520 --> 00:01:07.409
episode. Yeah, we are back this week, and we

00:01:07.409 --> 00:01:12.469
are on episode 157. And if you're new here, I

00:01:12.469 --> 00:01:15.890
always encourage new listeners to go back and

00:01:15.890 --> 00:01:18.790
listen to episodes that we've put out previously.

00:01:18.790 --> 00:01:24.329
We have over 150. Yeah, I encourage you to go

00:01:24.329 --> 00:01:28.109
take a listen to those. Absolutely, but we'll

00:01:28.109 --> 00:01:30.930
just go ahead and get into this week's case.

00:01:31.010 --> 00:01:34.049
We are on a missing person case this week. All

00:01:34.049 --> 00:01:37.609
right, let's get into it. Let's do it. So just

00:01:37.609 --> 00:01:40.069
as a bit of a content warning at the top, this

00:01:40.069 --> 00:01:44.329
case does involve a young person. Today, we are

00:01:44.329 --> 00:01:46.730
talking about the missing person case of Yvonne

00:01:46.730 --> 00:01:50.530
Reglar .And this takes place in August of 1977

00:01:50.530 --> 00:01:55.430
in Fairview Park, Ohio. But first, a little bit

00:01:55.430 --> 00:01:59.329
about Yvonne. Yvonne Reglar had just turned 17

00:01:59.329 --> 00:02:03.120
years old in the summer of 1977. She was born

00:02:03.120 --> 00:02:06.040
on July 11th and she was just weeks away from

00:02:06.040 --> 00:02:09.340
starting her senior year. She was a good student

00:02:09.340 --> 00:02:12.419
who routinely earned A's and B's and never caused

00:02:12.419 --> 00:02:15.479
her teachers or parents much trouble. She was

00:02:15.479 --> 00:02:19.879
tall. She was around 5 '10 and 135 pounds with

00:02:19.879 --> 00:02:23.680
brown hair and blue eyes. She lived in North

00:02:23.680 --> 00:02:26.400
Olmstead, Ohio with her mother and stepfather.

00:02:27.539 --> 00:02:30.000
Yvonne's biological father had died when she

00:02:30.000 --> 00:02:32.280
was young, and her stepfather had been there

00:02:32.280 --> 00:02:35.699
for most of her life. Yvonne also had a part

00:02:35.699 --> 00:02:39.180
-time job. She had been working for about a year

00:02:39.180 --> 00:02:42.680
as an attendant at a Sunoco gas station. She

00:02:42.680 --> 00:02:46.000
was considered a top employee for her age. She

00:02:46.000 --> 00:02:49.939
was reliable and dependable. Overall, it seems

00:02:49.939 --> 00:02:53.300
that Yvonne was a wonderful friend, a hard worker,

00:02:53.539 --> 00:02:56.939
and a good student. Someone who had a very bright

00:02:56.939 --> 00:03:01.139
future ahead of her. And now a timeline of events.

00:03:02.520 --> 00:03:08.939
Monday, August 8th, 1977. That day started off

00:03:08.939 --> 00:03:13.300
like any other day for Yvonne. However, her schedule

00:03:13.300 --> 00:03:15.479
was going to be disrupted in the morning, but

00:03:15.479 --> 00:03:18.620
she wasn't quite aware of it yet. She had been

00:03:18.620 --> 00:03:21.620
working at a Sunoco gas station in North Olmsted

00:03:21.620 --> 00:03:24.939
for about a year. But that week, and specifically

00:03:24.939 --> 00:03:28.939
that Monday, the manager at a different Sunoco

00:03:28.939 --> 00:03:31.879
in nearby Fairview Park was going on vacation

00:03:31.879 --> 00:03:35.520
for the week. According to reports, Yvonne was

00:03:35.520 --> 00:03:38.539
selected last minute to cover for him. It was

00:03:38.539 --> 00:03:40.520
going to be her first day at the new station.

00:03:40.939 --> 00:03:43.060
She just didn't know it yet when she woke up

00:03:43.060 --> 00:03:46.000
that morning. When she woke up, she started getting

00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:49.500
ready for work just like any other day. She was

00:03:49.500 --> 00:03:52.020
wearing a yellow t -shirt and blue jean shorts.

00:03:52.840 --> 00:03:54.740
She was scheduled to work the morning shift,

00:03:55.060 --> 00:03:59.139
7 a .m. to 3 p .m. Her parents saw her get ready

00:03:59.139 --> 00:04:02.860
that morning. At around 6 .25 a .m., they left

00:04:02.860 --> 00:04:06.120
the house to go fishing on Lake Erie. Yvonne's

00:04:06.120 --> 00:04:08.539
boyfriend was picking her up at around 6 .30

00:04:08.539 --> 00:04:12.879
to drive her for work. Yvonne didn't drive. As

00:04:12.879 --> 00:04:15.180
they were leaving, Yvonne told her parents, quote,

00:04:15.340 --> 00:04:21.740
There was nothing unusual about the exchange.

00:04:22.639 --> 00:04:24.819
Nothing to suggest it would be the last time

00:04:24.819 --> 00:04:28.319
they would see her. Yvonne first arrived at her

00:04:28.319 --> 00:04:32.279
normal store in North Olmstead at 7 a .m. From

00:04:32.279 --> 00:04:34.920
there, her manager Rick informed her that she

00:04:34.920 --> 00:04:37.220
would be filling in at the store in Fairview

00:04:37.220 --> 00:04:40.519
Park. Rick drove her to the Fairview Park location.

00:04:41.779 --> 00:04:44.019
Yvonne was dropped off and the morning seemed

00:04:44.019 --> 00:04:47.339
to run as normal from there. At noon, Rick stopped

00:04:47.339 --> 00:04:49.680
by to check on her and dropped off a sandwich.

00:04:50.490 --> 00:04:52.490
He didn't report anything out of the ordinary.

00:04:53.490 --> 00:04:56.009
Throughout the morning, Yvonne made several calls

00:04:56.009 --> 00:04:59.170
to friends from the gas station. They made plans

00:04:59.170 --> 00:05:02.670
to see a movie later that evening. One of her

00:05:02.670 --> 00:05:04.990
friends will report that they talked on the phone

00:05:04.990 --> 00:05:08.209
around 1 in the afternoon and confirmed that

00:05:08.209 --> 00:05:11.050
they were seeing a movie that night. While they

00:05:11.050 --> 00:05:13.569
were on the phone, the bell rang, signaling a

00:05:13.569 --> 00:05:15.670
customer had pulled in and Yvonne would need

00:05:15.670 --> 00:05:19.410
to go pump the gas. At this particular Sunoco

00:05:19.410 --> 00:05:22.689
station, there was one gas pump that was not

00:05:22.689 --> 00:05:24.810
self -service, so the attendant would have to

00:05:24.810 --> 00:05:28.110
come out and put the gas in the car. The friend

00:05:28.110 --> 00:05:30.350
said Yvonne mentioned a car was there for help,

00:05:30.370 --> 00:05:33.029
but it drove off. They continued talking on the

00:05:33.029 --> 00:05:37.149
phone. Then the car came back. Yvonne told her

00:05:37.149 --> 00:05:39.550
friend she would call her back, but she never

00:05:39.550 --> 00:05:44.600
did. At approximately 1 .25, an attendant at

00:05:44.600 --> 00:05:48.000
a gas station across the street told police he

00:05:48.000 --> 00:05:50.899
saw Yvonne pumping gas at the one pump that was

00:05:50.899 --> 00:05:53.839
not self -service. She was assisting a woman

00:05:53.839 --> 00:05:57.560
who had paid with a credit card. At around 1

00:05:57.560 --> 00:06:00.879
.30, again, an attendant at a nearby station,

00:06:01.019 --> 00:06:03.040
I'm not sure if it's the same one, it's unclear

00:06:03.040 --> 00:06:06.019
in the reporting, said Yvonne had complained

00:06:06.019 --> 00:06:09.860
about a customer who left only $1 for $3 worth

00:06:09.860 --> 00:06:14.670
of gas. At 1 .45 p .m., a vending machine operator

00:06:14.670 --> 00:06:17.670
arrived at the gas station but found it empty.

00:06:18.350 --> 00:06:21.149
People began showing up to purchase gas, but

00:06:21.149 --> 00:06:24.569
nobody was there to help. Fairview Park Police

00:06:24.569 --> 00:06:27.629
Chief Paul Shepard would later say, quote, people

00:06:27.629 --> 00:06:30.470
showed up to use to purchase gas or do some work

00:06:30.470 --> 00:06:34.689
there and found the gas station empty. Originally

00:06:34.689 --> 00:06:40.000
in 1977, it was reported that at 2 .15, The next

00:06:40.000 --> 00:06:44.620
employee arrived. However, in 2024, police say

00:06:44.620 --> 00:06:48.240
that it was closer to 2 .45 p .m., so two different

00:06:48.240 --> 00:06:52.420
times, about a half -hour window there. When

00:06:52.420 --> 00:06:55.180
the next employee arrived, Gary, he could not

00:06:55.180 --> 00:06:58.819
find Yvonne anywhere. He waited. He expected

00:06:58.819 --> 00:07:02.300
Yvonne to return any minute, but she would never

00:07:02.300 --> 00:07:06.360
reappear. So at 2 .50 p .m., he called the police.

00:07:07.000 --> 00:07:10.279
When police arrived, Inside of the gas station,

00:07:10.579 --> 00:07:14.420
officers found Yvonne's purse. All of its contents

00:07:14.420 --> 00:07:17.300
were still inside, including all of her money.

00:07:17.800 --> 00:07:20.720
There was makeup inside. A few books she had

00:07:20.720 --> 00:07:24.339
brought to read at work remained unopened. Her

00:07:24.339 --> 00:07:27.720
thermos of iced tea sat there. The sandwich her

00:07:27.720 --> 00:07:30.240
manager had dropped off earlier remained untouched.

00:07:30.800 --> 00:07:33.439
The gas station showed no signs of a struggle.

00:07:33.839 --> 00:07:37.189
Nothing appeared to be missing. No one reported

00:07:37.189 --> 00:07:40.629
seeing Yvonne walk away or get into a car. No

00:07:40.629 --> 00:07:43.910
one noticed any commotion. The cash register

00:07:43.910 --> 00:07:46.310
was untouched. All of the money was accounted

00:07:46.310 --> 00:07:50.269
for. The only thing out of place was that the

00:07:50.269 --> 00:07:52.649
self -service pumps showed gas had been taken

00:07:52.649 --> 00:07:57.149
without payment. Initially, police did not believe

00:07:57.149 --> 00:07:59.569
she had simply walked away from her job, and

00:07:59.569 --> 00:08:02.250
her parents thought the same thing. Her stepfather

00:08:02.250 --> 00:08:04.810
said, quote, I can't believe she ran away. She's

00:08:04.810 --> 00:08:08.649
a very responsible girl. She also had made plans

00:08:08.649 --> 00:08:10.930
with her friends to go to the movies that night.

00:08:11.449 --> 00:08:14.990
And just the weekend before, it's Monday that

00:08:14.990 --> 00:08:17.069
she goes missing, so just that past weekend,

00:08:17.350 --> 00:08:19.829
she had bought a dress to wear to the funeral

00:08:19.829 --> 00:08:22.709
of a friend's father that was due to take place

00:08:22.709 --> 00:08:27.170
later that week. By all accounts, she had no

00:08:27.170 --> 00:08:29.689
plans of running away and had lots of plans coming

00:08:29.689 --> 00:08:34.039
up that week. The next day, Tuesday, August 9th,

00:08:34.059 --> 00:08:36.740
police began searching for Yvonne and interviewing

00:08:36.740 --> 00:08:40.200
family, friends, and co -workers to determine

00:08:40.200 --> 00:08:44.279
whether she could have been a runaway. Police

00:08:44.279 --> 00:08:48.539
continue this search for days. On Thursday, August

00:08:48.539 --> 00:08:52.340
11th, Yvonne has been missing since Monday. There

00:08:52.340 --> 00:08:55.399
was still no sign of her. Police and her parents

00:08:55.399 --> 00:08:59.259
fear that she had been abducted. Lieutenant Fred

00:08:59.259 --> 00:09:02.509
Nippenberg says, quote, The station location

00:09:02.509 --> 00:09:06.129
is a busy area, and no one remembers seeing anything

00:09:06.129 --> 00:09:08.970
unusual. We're going to start all over again

00:09:08.970 --> 00:09:13.330
interviewing people. Police had searched around

00:09:13.330 --> 00:09:15.789
the Sunoco station. They had searched the high

00:09:15.789 --> 00:09:18.230
cliffs along the south side of Lorraine Road

00:09:18.230 --> 00:09:21.129
in the Rocky River Reservation as well to see

00:09:21.129 --> 00:09:23.710
if there had been any sign of her, and still

00:09:23.710 --> 00:09:27.929
there was nothing. On Friday, August 12th, The

00:09:27.929 --> 00:09:30.450
FBI joined the search after an airline clerk

00:09:30.450 --> 00:09:33.830
reported that on Tuesday or Wednesday, a girl

00:09:33.830 --> 00:09:36.470
fitting Yvonne's description purchased a ticket

00:09:36.470 --> 00:09:39.750
for a 10 a .m. flight to Miami. The young woman

00:09:39.750 --> 00:09:43.710
paid in $1 bills and 50 -cent pieces. She had

00:09:43.710 --> 00:09:47.509
no luggage and she was traveling alone. While

00:09:47.509 --> 00:09:49.889
the police and FBI are looking into this tip,

00:09:50.129 --> 00:09:54.429
the next day, Saturday, August 13th, Police get

00:09:54.429 --> 00:09:57.169
another lead from a truck driver who said a young

00:09:57.169 --> 00:10:00.110
woman approached him at a rest area along Route

00:10:00.110 --> 00:10:03.470
2 near Port Clinton early Thursday morning and

00:10:03.470 --> 00:10:07.309
asked for a ride to Toledo, Ohio. No one could

00:10:07.309 --> 00:10:09.710
think of any reason that Yvonne would want to

00:10:09.710 --> 00:10:14.509
go to Toledo. But still, police go to that area

00:10:14.509 --> 00:10:18.370
to look for her. However, neither one of these

00:10:18.370 --> 00:10:22.340
leads, the trucker or the airline lead, result

00:10:22.340 --> 00:10:27.299
in any clues about Yvonne. On Wednesday, August

00:10:27.299 --> 00:10:30.419
17th, so Yvonne has been missing for a week and

00:10:30.419 --> 00:10:33.320
a half at this point, Lieutenant John Hall said,

00:10:33.419 --> 00:10:36.019
quote, we're exactly where we were on the day

00:10:36.019 --> 00:10:39.399
after her disappearance. The strange thing is,

00:10:39.440 --> 00:10:41.440
is she left her purse behind in the station.

00:10:42.220 --> 00:10:44.259
That's the thing that bothers me more than anything

00:10:44.259 --> 00:10:49.409
else. However, Pretty quickly, the case seems

00:10:49.409 --> 00:10:52.370
to go cold. Police never really are able to turn

00:10:52.370 --> 00:10:55.409
up any leads in these first few weeks of investigation

00:10:55.409 --> 00:10:58.710
to point to any direction that Yvonne could have

00:10:58.710 --> 00:11:04.090
gone. In November of 1977, the investigation

00:11:04.090 --> 00:11:07.789
had stalled. The case was getting colder by the

00:11:07.789 --> 00:11:10.309
day, and it had been over three months since

00:11:10.309 --> 00:11:14.230
Yvonne vanished. Police began looking into Richard

00:11:14.230 --> 00:11:17.299
Allen Wright. who had been serving time for kidnapping

00:11:17.299 --> 00:11:20.120
and sexually assaulting an 18 -year -old from

00:11:20.120 --> 00:11:24.440
the same area in Ohio between 1972 and 1975.

00:11:25.259 --> 00:11:27.960
So that would have been five years before Yvonne

00:11:27.960 --> 00:11:31.940
vanished. However, he had escaped from prison

00:11:31.940 --> 00:11:34.759
and was on the run during the time of her disappearance.

00:11:35.440 --> 00:11:38.620
During his escape, he kidnapped a schoolteacher

00:11:38.620 --> 00:11:42.200
and held her captive for 12 days. The schoolteacher

00:11:42.200 --> 00:11:45.490
managed to escape. When police went to his trailer

00:11:45.490 --> 00:11:49.669
after, police found blood and hair that did not

00:11:49.669 --> 00:11:52.029
belong to the teacher, and they began wondering

00:11:52.029 --> 00:11:56.750
if this could be a link to Yvonne. They contacted

00:11:56.750 --> 00:11:59.350
Yvonne's parents for her blood type and a hair

00:11:59.350 --> 00:12:02.509
sample for comparison. According to her mother,

00:12:02.590 --> 00:12:04.929
she had to dig through Yvonne's clothes to find

00:12:04.929 --> 00:12:07.570
a single hair clinging to any of her clothes.

00:12:08.870 --> 00:12:13.220
However, the evidence did not match Yvonne. About

00:12:13.220 --> 00:12:15.779
a month later, so it's been over four months

00:12:15.779 --> 00:12:19.200
now, that Yvonne has been missing. Police traveled

00:12:19.200 --> 00:12:21.519
to Pennsylvania to interview a college student

00:12:21.519 --> 00:12:24.460
who believed that he had picked up Yvonne in

00:12:24.460 --> 00:12:26.899
Pennsylvania as a hitchhiker and had driven her

00:12:26.899 --> 00:12:30.840
to a nearby town. The student had recently seen

00:12:30.840 --> 00:12:33.860
a missing person poster and recognized her as

00:12:33.860 --> 00:12:36.720
the girl he had picked up. He wasn't sure of

00:12:36.720 --> 00:12:39.200
the date, but believed it was after her disappearance.

00:12:40.969 --> 00:12:43.690
Police questioned people in the area and searched

00:12:43.690 --> 00:12:47.070
for any other sign of Yvonne, but they didn't

00:12:47.070 --> 00:12:52.730
find anything. In August of 1978, so it's been

00:12:52.730 --> 00:12:55.230
a full year that Yvonne has been missing, one

00:12:55.230 --> 00:13:05.149
of her friends says, quote, Initially, police

00:13:05.149 --> 00:13:07.409
believed that this was an abduction, as I had

00:13:07.409 --> 00:13:11.419
spoken about earlier. But, As no ransom demands

00:13:11.419 --> 00:13:14.340
were made and no body was recovered, they began

00:13:14.340 --> 00:13:16.559
to believe that she may have actually run away.

00:13:17.200 --> 00:13:20.059
This is also fueled by the fact that tips have

00:13:20.059 --> 00:13:21.899
come in from people claiming they had picked

00:13:21.899 --> 00:13:24.960
her up as a hitchhiker. Her parents monitored

00:13:24.960 --> 00:13:27.700
her bank account. There had been no activity

00:13:27.700 --> 00:13:32.340
on it. Police theorized that issues with her

00:13:32.340 --> 00:13:35.639
stepfather may have led her to run away. One

00:13:35.639 --> 00:13:51.059
of her friends, Kathy, said, quote, Kathy and

00:13:51.059 --> 00:13:53.519
another friend also told reporters that Yvonne

00:13:53.519 --> 00:13:56.159
had an ex -boyfriend she wanted to get back at.

00:13:56.559 --> 00:14:09.340
Quote, These friends were convinced she had staged

00:14:09.340 --> 00:14:11.799
the mysterious circumstances around her disappearance.

00:14:12.639 --> 00:14:15.740
Her parents never believed any of that. They

00:14:15.740 --> 00:14:18.419
believed that she had been abducted. And still

00:14:18.419 --> 00:14:22.600
no firm sign or clue of Yvonne ever popped up.

00:14:23.340 --> 00:14:28.240
In July of 1980, so just shy of three years,

00:14:28.580 --> 00:14:33.279
still no sign of her. The most recent tip that

00:14:33.279 --> 00:14:36.330
police had received at this point? had come from

00:14:36.330 --> 00:14:39.129
somebody who had seen a model in a hairstyle

00:14:39.129 --> 00:14:41.809
magazine who resembled Yvonne, so they called

00:14:41.809 --> 00:14:45.289
it in. Police did investigate this, but the woman

00:14:45.289 --> 00:14:48.330
was not Yvonne. Police said that the case was

00:14:48.330 --> 00:14:51.409
technically still active, simply because it was

00:14:51.409 --> 00:14:57.830
unsolved. In August of 1981, so four years, police

00:14:57.830 --> 00:14:59.970
admitted they no longer knew what happened to

00:14:59.970 --> 00:15:02.740
Yvonne. Though they once believed that she ran

00:15:02.740 --> 00:15:04.639
away, that had been their most recent working

00:15:04.639 --> 00:15:08.940
theory, it had been months and years since they

00:15:08.940 --> 00:15:12.100
had had any other sightings come in of her, and

00:15:12.100 --> 00:15:14.379
they were never able to confirm that any of the

00:15:14.379 --> 00:15:17.039
sightings they did get were actually Yvonne.

00:15:18.679 --> 00:15:23.740
So the case truly goes cold after this. It takes

00:15:23.740 --> 00:15:26.899
years and years for an update to come. The last

00:15:26.899 --> 00:15:30.240
update really seems to come in 2024, so very

00:15:30.240 --> 00:15:33.779
recently. It had been 47 years since Yvonne disappeared.

00:15:34.960 --> 00:15:37.980
A cold case unit had announced that they were

00:15:37.980 --> 00:15:40.480
reopening her case in hopes of finally getting

00:15:40.480 --> 00:15:44.539
answers. Also created around this time is an

00:15:44.539 --> 00:15:46.840
aged progressed photo of Yvonne of what she would

00:15:46.840 --> 00:15:49.620
look like in her 60s, which is around the age

00:15:49.620 --> 00:15:52.940
she would be today. But there have truly been

00:15:52.940 --> 00:15:55.679
no new updates or developments in Yvonne's case

00:15:55.679 --> 00:15:59.179
since that first day that she went missing. So

00:15:59.179 --> 00:16:01.179
if you know anything about the disappearance

00:16:01.179 --> 00:16:06.200
of Yvonne in August of 1977 or her whereabouts

00:16:06.200 --> 00:16:10.059
today, please call the Fairview Park Police at

00:16:10.059 --> 00:16:17.799
440 -356 -4415. So that is the missing person

00:16:17.799 --> 00:16:20.899
case of Yvonne Reglar. Before we get into the

00:16:20.899 --> 00:16:23.539
timeline, just to talk about Yvonne a little

00:16:23.539 --> 00:16:26.659
bit, to echo what you said, you know, she was

00:16:26.659 --> 00:16:30.779
a young woman starting on the precipice of a

00:16:30.779 --> 00:16:33.879
new horizon, you know, her life beginning after

00:16:33.879 --> 00:16:38.240
high school. And, you know, she had a job that

00:16:38.240 --> 00:16:41.879
she was working at. It seemed like her life was

00:16:41.879 --> 00:16:45.399
in the beginning stages of budding and blooming

00:16:45.399 --> 00:16:50.899
into what the next stages would be. And I'd love

00:16:50.899 --> 00:16:55.899
to just find answers for this case, you know,

00:16:55.919 --> 00:17:04.700
for a life to be what seems like it ended abruptly.

00:17:06.259 --> 00:17:11.740
Whether she is here or not, to me, is still so

00:17:11.740 --> 00:17:16.140
worthy of... We've covered a lot of cases like

00:17:16.140 --> 00:17:18.799
this where it's young women who just seem to

00:17:18.799 --> 00:17:22.220
disappear off the face of the earth. It doesn't

00:17:22.220 --> 00:17:27.200
get any easier when we cover the next one. But

00:17:27.200 --> 00:17:30.980
cases like these, they scare me. They scare me

00:17:30.980 --> 00:17:34.420
in the way that the people disappear. So I'm

00:17:34.420 --> 00:17:36.720
really glad that you brought Yvonne's case to

00:17:36.720 --> 00:17:41.450
us. Yeah, I... deeply deeply believe and I've

00:17:41.450 --> 00:17:43.490
said it before on this podcast and I'll say it

00:17:43.490 --> 00:17:46.670
again on this podcast but in this country in

00:17:46.670 --> 00:17:48.869
this day and age there should be no reason that

00:17:48.869 --> 00:17:51.750
anybody goes missing and we just like don't have

00:17:51.750 --> 00:17:55.630
the answers for it um especially children especially

00:17:55.630 --> 00:17:59.289
children I Yvonne is 17 years old to me like

00:17:59.289 --> 00:18:03.990
she is still a child and um you know just there's

00:18:03.990 --> 00:18:07.250
no I feel like there's no excuses we we should

00:18:07.250 --> 00:18:09.880
always know where children are and we should

00:18:09.880 --> 00:18:12.799
always have answers if we don't. So yeah, as

00:18:12.799 --> 00:18:15.640
soon as I saw Yvonne's case and looked into it,

00:18:15.720 --> 00:18:18.380
I definitely knew it was one that I wanted to

00:18:18.380 --> 00:18:22.240
bring to Cold and Missing simply because I didn't

00:18:22.240 --> 00:18:24.000
know it and I'm sure other listeners have not

00:18:24.000 --> 00:18:27.880
heard of her case either. Going right into the

00:18:27.880 --> 00:18:31.240
timeline of the day she disappeared, I do think

00:18:31.240 --> 00:18:34.079
it's worth noting again, you know, even though

00:18:34.079 --> 00:18:37.980
that you said it, that there was a major change

00:18:37.980 --> 00:18:41.880
in what her workday looked like. I don't know

00:18:41.880 --> 00:18:47.279
if she had swapped gas stations before or had

00:18:47.279 --> 00:18:50.220
done it after she had already arrived to the

00:18:50.220 --> 00:18:52.019
place that she was supposed to be working at,

00:18:52.099 --> 00:18:55.559
but that decision being made and kind of being

00:18:55.559 --> 00:18:59.059
made for her, yes, I do see how that could be

00:18:59.059 --> 00:19:02.579
a regular part of your job, but to me it's noticeable

00:19:02.579 --> 00:19:07.809
that On this day, when she started working at

00:19:07.809 --> 00:19:09.890
a different place, the worst thing that could

00:19:09.890 --> 00:19:14.009
have happened to her did. And some part of me

00:19:14.009 --> 00:19:18.809
can't believe that that is just how it happened.

00:19:19.730 --> 00:19:22.470
There's a part of me that wonders if there was

00:19:22.470 --> 00:19:26.029
a design in that decision being made that she

00:19:26.029 --> 00:19:28.670
would work at a different location on that day.

00:19:28.930 --> 00:19:32.140
Yeah, it's something you... completely have to

00:19:32.140 --> 00:19:34.240
think about when you look at the timeline for

00:19:34.240 --> 00:19:37.519
the day, such a disruption in her schedule. From

00:19:37.519 --> 00:19:39.839
everything I can tell, it looks like Yvonne arrived

00:19:39.839 --> 00:19:42.240
at her normal gas station that she typically

00:19:42.240 --> 00:19:46.319
worked at in North Olmstead. And then once she

00:19:46.319 --> 00:19:48.180
got there, she was informed that she was actually

00:19:48.180 --> 00:19:51.960
going to work at this other one in a nearby town

00:19:51.960 --> 00:19:56.619
in Fairview Park. So the manager of her store

00:19:56.619 --> 00:20:00.160
drove her to the other store. and set her up

00:20:00.160 --> 00:20:04.819
and yeah it's it's um you have to think like

00:20:04.819 --> 00:20:11.599
was uh her switching stores part of um an ultimate

00:20:11.599 --> 00:20:17.059
plan to to uh get her into a car that day or

00:20:17.059 --> 00:20:21.079
was it just putting her at the wrong place at

00:20:21.079 --> 00:20:25.440
the wrong time just putting her there um it's

00:20:25.440 --> 00:20:30.160
very um Curious if it's just a coincidence or

00:20:30.160 --> 00:20:33.759
if it's if it's planned. Yeah. Lots of questions

00:20:33.759 --> 00:20:36.140
around that. Now, while she's at the Fairview

00:20:36.140 --> 00:20:40.079
gas station, we know that she's taking calls.

00:20:40.220 --> 00:20:46.079
She's doing her job. And during a phone call,

00:20:46.299 --> 00:20:50.799
she mentions that there is a car that comes up.

00:20:57.150 --> 00:20:59.970
takes off again, that's the first red flag for

00:20:59.970 --> 00:21:04.829
me, is that there was a car that rang for service

00:21:04.829 --> 00:21:08.789
and then left and then came back. And I'm not

00:21:08.789 --> 00:21:12.390
sure if this was the same car, but the possibility

00:21:12.390 --> 00:21:15.670
of one of those cars only paying a dollar for

00:21:15.670 --> 00:21:19.630
$3 worth of gas. So all of those things were

00:21:19.630 --> 00:21:22.089
noticeable to me. They were small disruptions

00:21:22.089 --> 00:21:25.230
that were happening for her while she was working.

00:21:25.710 --> 00:21:27.950
Yeah, so there's a couple of things that happens

00:21:27.950 --> 00:21:29.869
like right in there. So I'm glad you brought

00:21:29.869 --> 00:21:34.009
it up. So, yeah, she's on the phone. The bell

00:21:34.009 --> 00:21:36.470
rings. There's a car there. But then the car

00:21:36.470 --> 00:21:38.309
pulls off. So she just stays on the phone with

00:21:38.309 --> 00:21:41.910
her friend. The bell rings again. She tells her

00:21:41.910 --> 00:21:45.890
friend the same car is back. So that is what

00:21:45.890 --> 00:21:49.890
the friend reported. She goes out to help because

00:21:49.890 --> 00:21:54.329
there is one. pump at the gas station that the

00:21:54.329 --> 00:21:57.309
attendant has to has to do it so she goes to

00:21:57.309 --> 00:22:01.230
help and put the put the gas in the car and i

00:22:01.230 --> 00:22:05.349
think this could be the woman that she is helping

00:22:05.349 --> 00:22:07.089
with because the attendant across the street

00:22:07.089 --> 00:22:10.789
sees her at like 125 helping a woman i don't

00:22:10.789 --> 00:22:13.410
know though if uh this is a different person

00:22:13.410 --> 00:22:16.809
it could be it could not be um but if it's a

00:22:16.809 --> 00:22:19.529
different person if that if the woman wasn't

00:22:19.529 --> 00:22:22.109
the one who Drove up, drove off, then came back

00:22:22.109 --> 00:22:24.470
again. Then I'm very curious about who that person

00:22:24.470 --> 00:22:26.430
is that drove off and then decided to come back

00:22:26.430 --> 00:22:32.130
because I would just be curious to know what

00:22:32.130 --> 00:22:51.480
they know and what they saw. the vendor shows

00:22:51.480 --> 00:22:54.640
up and she's not there. So it's a 15 -minute

00:22:54.640 --> 00:22:59.579
window ultimately from the time somebody last

00:22:59.579 --> 00:23:01.319
reports seeing her and the time that somebody

00:23:01.319 --> 00:23:03.980
really notices that she's not there. Yeah, I

00:23:03.980 --> 00:23:07.000
think one of the big questions for that moment

00:23:07.000 --> 00:23:12.859
in the timeline is, did she get into a car? Was

00:23:12.859 --> 00:23:17.980
she pulled into a car? And if so, was it visible

00:23:17.980 --> 00:23:22.119
to anyone? And I think the answer to that is

00:23:22.119 --> 00:23:28.640
no, but it must have happened so quickly to make

00:23:28.640 --> 00:23:30.859
it be that way, to make it not be a noticeable

00:23:30.859 --> 00:23:36.180
moment of either her getting into a car or being

00:23:36.180 --> 00:23:40.160
pulled in. I feel like this moment in the timeline

00:23:40.160 --> 00:23:45.440
really circles right around that, and we just

00:23:45.440 --> 00:23:51.000
don't have any information. Yeah. Looking at

00:23:51.000 --> 00:23:53.039
all of this, there's really no part of me that

00:23:53.039 --> 00:23:58.079
believes that Yvonne ran away. I really do think

00:23:58.079 --> 00:24:02.680
that this is an abduction, that she was pulled

00:24:02.680 --> 00:24:08.480
into a car. I think it very unlikely she got

00:24:08.480 --> 00:24:12.000
talked into a car just because of the type of

00:24:12.000 --> 00:24:14.720
employee she was. She was very responsible. She

00:24:14.720 --> 00:24:16.660
was dependable. I don't think she's the type

00:24:16.660 --> 00:24:19.299
that... Someone could convince her to like get

00:24:19.299 --> 00:24:23.140
in a car and like skip work for a couple of hours.

00:24:23.980 --> 00:24:26.980
So I think if somebody got her in the car, it

00:24:26.980 --> 00:24:32.259
was by force. And yeah, to your point, it had

00:24:32.259 --> 00:24:34.900
to have been quick. Like that's one thing that

00:24:34.900 --> 00:24:37.160
like the cops at the time made them kind of think

00:24:37.160 --> 00:24:39.099
that maybe she did run away was because nobody

00:24:39.099 --> 00:24:41.759
saw anything. Nobody heard anything. It's a busy

00:24:41.759 --> 00:24:43.920
street. You know, the attendants had seen her

00:24:43.920 --> 00:24:47.519
before that. You know, that was kind of fueling

00:24:47.519 --> 00:24:49.940
them to think that she did run away because how

00:24:49.940 --> 00:24:52.460
could nobody see nothing? But it really seems

00:24:52.460 --> 00:24:56.819
that nobody saw anything. Yeah, same for me as

00:24:56.819 --> 00:24:59.500
well. One of the first things I wrote down was,

00:24:59.579 --> 00:25:03.980
to me, this does not read as a runaway. Just

00:25:03.980 --> 00:25:06.779
the simple fact of her stuff was left behind

00:25:06.779 --> 00:25:10.980
and she was making active plans for later in

00:25:10.980 --> 00:25:18.220
that evening to go see a movie. a ruse. I think

00:25:18.220 --> 00:25:20.680
she was having a regular day to echo what you're

00:25:20.680 --> 00:25:25.259
saying. I believe that she was abducted. Yeah.

00:25:25.380 --> 00:25:28.279
And, you know, just to further drive home the

00:25:28.279 --> 00:25:30.839
point of her plans, like over that past weekend,

00:25:30.880 --> 00:25:33.799
she had bought a dress for a funeral that I believe

00:25:33.799 --> 00:25:35.480
was happening on like Tuesday or Wednesday of

00:25:35.480 --> 00:25:37.759
that week. A friend's dad had passed away. So

00:25:37.759 --> 00:25:41.240
she was attending the funeral. And she strikes

00:25:41.240 --> 00:25:45.569
me. as a friend who would not leave another friend

00:25:45.569 --> 00:25:49.150
during this time that would show up for her friend

00:25:49.150 --> 00:25:53.910
during this. So, yeah, I do not think that she

00:25:53.910 --> 00:25:57.009
ran during this time at all. At all. Yeah, I

00:25:57.009 --> 00:25:59.869
mean, down to her character and how you described

00:25:59.869 --> 00:26:03.250
her, she sounds like a friend who just, period,

00:26:03.369 --> 00:26:06.750
shows up. Or that she shows up to her job, shows

00:26:06.750 --> 00:26:09.069
up to school, shows up in friendships, shows

00:26:09.069 --> 00:26:12.170
up for her family. This is a present. person

00:26:12.170 --> 00:26:15.890
and active in their life. To me, it does not

00:26:15.890 --> 00:26:18.849
read as someone who is planning to leave that

00:26:18.849 --> 00:26:22.930
life. I really want to see answers in Yvonne's

00:26:22.930 --> 00:26:25.529
case, especially with it being reopened. Like,

00:26:25.549 --> 00:26:29.529
I really want to see investigators go after this

00:26:29.529 --> 00:26:32.029
case like they should have, you know, right when

00:26:32.029 --> 00:26:34.069
she disappeared, like they should have treated

00:26:34.069 --> 00:26:37.109
it as an abduction from day one. Unfortunately,

00:26:38.059 --> 00:26:42.200
That did not happen, and now we're here over

00:26:42.200 --> 00:26:46.619
47 years later. I really want to see answers

00:26:46.619 --> 00:26:50.539
for Yvonne and for her family, for those that

00:26:50.539 --> 00:26:54.200
have known and loved her. Yeah, the case did

00:26:54.200 --> 00:26:56.539
move slowly, even though there were small blips

00:26:56.539 --> 00:26:59.279
of her being mentioned that maybe she was seen

00:26:59.279 --> 00:27:03.779
hitchhiking or went to Toledo or even the other

00:27:03.779 --> 00:27:07.730
guy that escaped prison and there was... A possibility

00:27:07.730 --> 00:27:10.650
that maybe he did something while he was out.

00:27:11.829 --> 00:27:15.490
Even all of those reveals as we move through

00:27:15.490 --> 00:27:19.009
her timeline were years apart. That information

00:27:19.009 --> 00:27:24.369
came out slowly. And one of those moments resulted

00:27:24.369 --> 00:27:27.329
in her mom having to dig through her clothes

00:27:27.329 --> 00:27:32.670
to find her hair. I can't even imagine what doing

00:27:32.670 --> 00:27:36.390
something like that would do to a person. Just

00:27:36.390 --> 00:27:38.410
knowing that the parents, that her parents were

00:27:38.410 --> 00:27:42.829
committed to doing anything to help find their

00:27:42.829 --> 00:27:48.670
child, it's very harrowing, but it gives me the

00:27:48.670 --> 00:27:51.390
feeling that there are answers out there for

00:27:51.390 --> 00:27:54.710
this family. I do still think that this case

00:27:54.710 --> 00:27:59.940
is so worthy of bringing her home. Yeah, Yvonne

00:27:59.940 --> 00:28:03.480
deserves to come home and however that looks,

00:28:03.519 --> 00:28:06.240
she deserves to come home and she deserves to

00:28:06.240 --> 00:28:10.359
rest and have a place to rest at home. So if

00:28:10.359 --> 00:28:12.319
you know anything about Yvonne's disappearance

00:28:12.319 --> 00:28:17.160
in August of 1977 or her whereabouts today, please

00:28:17.160 --> 00:28:22.619
call the Fairview Park Police at 440 -356 -4415.

00:28:23.579 --> 00:28:27.259
We will have pictures of Yvonne on our Instagram

00:28:27.259 --> 00:28:30.019
at coldandmissing, as well as the age progress

00:28:30.019 --> 00:28:32.000
photos that I mentioned. We'll have that on there

00:28:32.000 --> 00:28:34.839
as well. Please share these far and wide. Let's

00:28:34.839 --> 00:28:36.859
get her case out there. Let's get the age progress

00:28:36.859 --> 00:28:39.920
photo out there. And let's get energy behind

00:28:39.920 --> 00:28:42.819
her case and people talking about her. I really

00:28:42.819 --> 00:28:45.519
hope that resources are just like poured into

00:28:45.519 --> 00:28:48.720
her case. So that way we can see it solved. We've

00:28:48.720 --> 00:28:51.140
seen a lot of cold cases solved recently. So

00:28:51.140 --> 00:28:53.799
I'd love to see this one solved too. And as I

00:28:53.799 --> 00:28:56.000
mentioned, if you're not following us at coldandmissing

00:28:56.000 --> 00:28:58.279
on Instagram, if we ever need to take a week

00:28:58.279 --> 00:29:01.339
off, I always try to update there either via

00:29:01.339 --> 00:29:03.779
a post or in our story. So please watch out for

00:29:03.779 --> 00:29:05.970
it there. And if you're looking for some of our

00:29:05.970 --> 00:29:08.049
old episodes, like Eli mentioned at the top of

00:29:08.049 --> 00:29:10.069
the episode, you can find those on our website,

00:29:10.230 --> 00:29:14.450
www .coldandmissing .com. We also have transcripts

00:29:14.450 --> 00:29:16.670
there. So if you or someone you love is hard

00:29:16.670 --> 00:29:18.549
of hearing, you can follow along with the official

00:29:18.549 --> 00:29:21.809
transcripts on our website. And if you could

00:29:21.809 --> 00:29:23.710
leave us a five -star review today, that would

00:29:23.710 --> 00:29:26.190
be so great. It really helps others find this

00:29:26.190 --> 00:29:28.670
podcast, give the podcast a chance, give it a

00:29:28.670 --> 00:29:31.089
listen. And quite frankly, giving it five stars

00:29:31.089 --> 00:29:33.630
is going to get Yvonne's case listened to because

00:29:33.869 --> 00:29:36.390
she's right at the top. So that's who they're

00:29:36.390 --> 00:29:38.990
going to click on and listen to. So giving five

00:29:38.990 --> 00:29:41.650
stars really does advocate for these cases. I

00:29:41.650 --> 00:29:45.750
know I'm asking it for my podcast, but it gets

00:29:45.750 --> 00:29:47.690
the case information out there, which is why

00:29:47.690 --> 00:29:51.309
I'm asking for it. I promise if I didn't need

00:29:51.309 --> 00:29:54.410
to, I would not ask because we do not care about

00:29:54.410 --> 00:29:56.549
numbers or anything like that. We just want the

00:29:56.549 --> 00:29:59.250
case information out there. But that is all I

00:29:59.250 --> 00:30:01.430
have. Thank you so much for listening to Cold

00:30:01.430 --> 00:30:03.839
and Missing. I'm your host, Ali . And I'm your

00:30:03.839 --> 00:30:06.619
co -host, Eli. Have a good week and stay safe,

00:30:06.660 --> 00:30:08.079
y 'all. Stay safe, y 'all.
